Not enough RAM.
I use a PC as a http server for test purposes, but it has only 32mb of ram so
with both apache, X and Oracle running simultaneously, the computer slows down way too
much. I don't have enough ram.
Remove all processes you don't need (look into the scripts below /etc/rc.d/rc5.d
and remove everything you do not need; I assume RedHat and runlevel 5). Limit the number
of apache processes. If it's only a test server you probably don't need more than a couple
(4) of them
running. Do not run gnome or kde, a small window manager will do ( fvwm ). Use the lowest
resolution and colour-depth acceptable (in my experience X then stays smaller). In any
case don't use Netscape,StarOffice...etc
